Surgery

Today Gabriella had to have her tonsils and adenoids removed. I'm not sure who the experience was more traumatic for -- her or me! I was not at all prepared for the emotions that welled up in me when I saw her go under the anesthesia. I started to cry, and the anesthesiologist actually asked me if I had accidently inhaled some of the gas. I had to explain that no, I was just emotional.

The surgery went great. She was a lot disoriented and angry for about 15 minutes after waking up from surgery. They had to take her off all monitors and IV's because she wouldn't stop trying to rip them all off. And she made this low, demonic growl at both myself and the nurse. Thankfully that's not the child she is all the time. I finally got her to calm down once the pain medication took effect, and she fell asleep in my arms for about an hour and a half. She was discharged 4 hours after checking in and we were able to come home. Thank goodness! Miles went to the store and bought her a bouquet of flowers and a "get well" balloon. She was so excited

She has spent the afternoon on the couch, drugged up, eating ice cream and drinking lots of fluids. She really dislikes the taste of the pain medicine, so I have a feeling that tomorrow, when left with the option of taking it or living with some discomfort, she'll opt for discomfort. I am just thankful everything went well and now we are hoping she'll finally be able to get a good night's rest with no sleep apnea.
